National Statistics Office of Georgia publishes inflation data for May

In Georgia, prices for vegetables, bread, bakery products and for soft drinks, rose the most during the year, according to the data of the National Statistics Office "Sakstat" for May 2022.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport and utilities rose most of all, and annual inflation (May 2022 to May 2021) amounted to 13.3% with a target of 3% in Georgia, Sputnik Georgia reports.

According to the National Bank of Georgia, the coronavirus pandemic has brought many challenges to the world economy, and one of the important factors in this regard is the trend of accelerated price growth, which has recently remained a problem both in developed countries and in developing ones.

The Georgian authorities expect the inflation rate to decrease in the second half of 2022, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili said, adding that it is very difficult to predict it given the current events in the world.
